Kawin Culinary Arts Incubator: Empowering Saudi Arabia’s Innovative Chefs

In a groundbreaking initiative to support professional chefs and entrepreneurial practitioners, the Culinary Arts Authority has launched the “Kawin Incubator.” This first-of-its-kind platform aims to enhance culinary capabilities through a comprehensive suite of programs and initiatives. The incubator is designed to provide the necessary resources, guidance, and mentorship to innovative and talented chefs as well as emerging entrepreneurs in the culinary arts sector.

Recognizing the culinary industry’s rapidly evolving trends, the Kawin Incubator’s primary goal is to elevate the sector, provide valuable support, and enhance the expertise of chefs across Saudi Arabia. By doing so, it seeks to bolster the sector’s contribution to the Kingdom’s gross domestic product (GDP).

Revitalizing Saudi Arabia’s Culinary Arts Sector

Saudi Arabia has long been a global destination for tourism and hospitality. However, the culinary arts sector, like many others, faced challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to the unwavering support of the Saudi government under the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, the food and beverage industry has witnessed a remarkable recovery and growth.

According to reports from the Monshaat Authority, the food and beverage sector remains one of the most competitive industries in the Kingdom. Factors such as a robust economy, diverse cultural influences, and an expanding taste for international cuisines have contributed to its growth. Leading global brands have established a strong presence in the Kingdom, further fueling opportunities in the culinary arts sector.

The Kawin Incubator aligns with the Culinary Arts Authority’s mission to nurture innovation, empower entrepreneurs, and position Saudi Arabia as the premier destination for distinctive and rich culinary experiences in the Middle East and beyond.

Programs Offered by the Kawin Incubator

The Kawin Incubator offers three main programs, each tailored to different stages of culinary innovation and business development:

  1. Incubation Cycles
This program includes six cycles, each beginning with a virtual three-day competition involving 50 participants. From these, 20 projects advance to the in-person incubation stage, which lasts six months. By the end of the program, 120 projects will have graduated, ready to contribute to the culinary arts sector.
  2. The Cooking Challenge
A unique five-hour live competition where eight chefs showcase their creativity and innovation. This challenge is held twice annually, offering winners the chance to operate a restaurant space within the incubator for one week at no cost. This opportunity enables chefs to test their dishes and gauge public reactions.
  3. Intensive Training Program
Conducted over five days, this program focuses on teaching and applying the fundamentals of building and scaling food and beverage businesses. Participants gain access to Kawin Incubator’s experimental kitchen, where they refine recipes, identify optimal production techniques, and receive expert guidance from local and international culinary professionals. The program accommodates eight chefs per session and is held twice a year.
