Madinah’s Traffic Authorities Mobilize for Ramadan: New Plan to Secure Pilgrim Access to Holy Site

Lieutenant Colonel Jamal Al-Saadi, spokesperson for the Traffic Department in Madinah, Saudi Arabia, has revealed the details of the traffic management plan around the Prophet’s Mosque during the holy month of Ramadan.
In an exclusive statement to Rowad Al Aamal (Entrepreneurshipksa), Al-Saadi said that the Umrah Security Forces’ Traffic Division has begun implementing a comprehensive plan to manage vehicle flow during Ramadan. The initiative is being executed in coordination with various government and service entities to ensure smooth and safe transportation for pilgrims and visitors heading to the Prophet’s Mosque.
Traffic Management Around the Prophet’s Mosque
Al-Saadi explained that the plan focuses on mobilizing both human and logistical resources to secure all roads leading to and from the mosque. Key elements include securing pedestrian crossings and managing large crowds to facilitate smooth movement throughout the area.
Madinah Governor Shares Iftar with Imams of the Prophet’s Mosque
In a gesture of unity and spiritual leadership, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Madinah Region, joined the esteemed imams of the Prophet’s Mosque for iftar within the mosque premises, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Prince Salman reaffirmed the leadership’s dedication to the Two Holy Mosques and its commitment to deploying all available resources to ensure the comfort and tranquility of worshippers and visitors. He praised the imams’ pivotal role in promoting the values of moderation and tolerance and in furthering the noble message of the holy sites. The Governor also prayed for the success of all efforts during the remainder of the blessed month.
Humanitarian Support & Crowd Management
Simultaneously, the Ministry of Interior continues to implement integrated plans to enhance security, manage crowds, and provide humanitarian and logistical support at the Prophet’s Mosque during Ramadan 1446 AH.
The General Directorate of Public Security, represented by the Special Forces for Hajj and Umrah Security, is leading efforts to regulate the entry and exit of worshippers and manage crowds within the mosque and its courtyards. These efforts are supported by advanced security strategies designed to prevent overcrowding and ensure smooth movement.
Modern technologies such as smart surveillance systems and thermal cameras are being deployed to maintain safety, respond swiftly to emergencies, and provide support to elderly worshippers and people with disabilities, in cooperation with relevant authorities.
The General Traffic Department is also intensifying efforts to streamline vehicle flow on roads leading to the mosque. Measures include the allocation of pedestrian pathways, organized vehicle parking, and strategic guidance based on anticipated crowd density during peak hours.
Smart traffic management systems are also being utilized to monitor and control traffic, contributing to a safe and serene environment for all worshippers.
