Diriyah has announced its celebration of this year’s Founding Day under the theme “Ra’i Al-Awwal,” embodying the journey of Imam Muhammad bin Saud, the founder of the First Saudi State. He laid the foundations of an urban state and established Diriyah as a beacon of knowledge and learning. He nurtured the seeds of prosperity, leading to advancements in agriculture, trade exchanges, and the security of pilgrim caravans, culminating in construction of Diriyah’s wall, making it a fortified sanctuary.
Diverse Activities and Events
Diriyah has launched a series of exceptional events and experiences for its visitors, offering a unique journey that evokes the fragrance of the past and celebrates the authenticity of the present. These events provide insights into the history of the First Saudi State and a glimpse into the vibrant future of its projects.
The festivities commenced at Al-Bujairi Terrace, where visitors were warmly welcomed with traditional Saudi coffee and dates, reflecting the ancestral traditions and genuine Saudi hospitality. Ardha and Samri troupes also performed interactive shows to revive popular folk art, creating an enthusiastic atmosphere among visitors throughout the day.
Varied Experiences and Interactive Shows
Visitors can engage in diverse experiences, including interactive displays in various areas such as the photography zone at Al-Bujairi Terrace. Here, guests have the opportunity to document their special Founding Day moments in Diriyah, with access to a selection of traditional attire from that era. The events also feature workshops aimed at enhancing awareness of heritage and traditional crafts, as well as shadow theater performances that offer entertaining and educational experiences for children.
Meanwhile, Bab Samhan Hotel hosted the “Al-Midad” cultural sessions, which included discussions on the rich history and heritage of the Saudi state. A group of Diriyah families participated in the “Community Feast” event in Al-Dhuwaihra, presenting traditional dishes to visitors in an interactive setting adorned with lights and decorative elements in celebration of the occasion.
Ongoing Activities and Events
The celebrations continue until Sunday, February 23, 2025, featuring several activities such as the grand Ardha (First Saudi State’s traditional dance) with 300 performers, and the Royal Guard parade with 450 participants in Wadi Hanifa. Visitors will also have the chance to listen to various narratives of the Saudi state through the “Diriyah Narrator” program in Al-Dhuwaihra, presenting captivating historical tales from previous competition winners.
Moreover, a range of events and activities are taking place in the historic Al-Turaif district and Al-Bujairi Terrace as part of Diriyah Season’s special Founding Day celebrations. It’s noteworthy that all events are held in a festive atmosphere, reflecting Diriyah’s pride in its deep-rooted history and rich cultural heritage.
